"The Lord Will Come Like A Thief In The Night" The True Meaning Of This Statement

In this topic we'll be discussing on 1st Thessalonians chapter 5 v 2-7.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. - 1 Thessalonians 5: 2-7.

"The Lord will come like a thief in the night" does not mean that Jesus will come back at night in fact this statement is for unbelievers, those that are still living in darkness(night), we believers live in the light(day). Jesus will come back when people will be in darkness(1st Thess. 5:3 says " For when they shall say, Peace and safety;") which means that when it seems that it is very safe to commit a sin), at that time, there will be no law against sin in many countries. A time where there shall be wickedness and immoralities and many people will be blindfolded so much that they won't know if Jesus Christ has come or not. In verse 4, Paul said that "we are not in darkness which means that we(Christians) are living in the light, we are not in darkness, we know the truth and we can easily see and witness the Lord's second coming.

In verse 6, Paul said that we are not sleeping like others, this involves Spiritual fatigue. Our Spirit should be active and at alert always, we should never entertain Spiritual weakness.
This is what happened in Song of Solomon chapter 5 v 2-7, the bride(church) was asleep and weak, then the groom(Jesus) came suddenly when the bride was not expecting him. The next thing that the bride could do was to give excuses by saying "I have put off my coat, how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them? ". But the groom was already gone and the bride had to suffer in return, she(church) called him(Jesus) but he gave no answer. If the bride had been awake, the groom wouldn't have gone away and the bride should not have suffered.

Let us be very awake, and be prepared for the Lord's second coming so that the day will not catch us unaware. I pray in the name of Jesus that the Lord will help us by his grace and mercy.
