The physical senses include: sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch. Our Spirit also have these five senses.
• Sight (John 9:39, Luke 4:18, 2nd Kings 6:15).
• Hearing (Proverbs 20:12, Matthew 13:9, Revelations 3:6).
• Taste (2nd Kings 4:40, Ezekiel 3:1-3).
• Touch (Luke 8:43-46) and smell.
You can smell angels and demons if your Spiritual nose is working. I was once reading an article titled "How to know if you have a visitation from an angel" and one of the points is that "you will smell a sweet odor".
A pastor once said that he went to a place and he began to perceive a very bad odour that smelt like feces, he looked everywhere maybe somewhere around that place is messed up but he found nothing until the Holy Spirit told him that a demon is present in that place, he casted out the demon and that bad odor vanished immediately. Angels and demons have their own smell.
We human beings produce two types of smell Spiritually:
• The good smell (the fragrance odor) ; and
• The bad smell (the rotten flesh).
The fragrance odor is produced and offered to God when we do good things but the rotten one is produced each time we sin.
But thanks be to God! For in union with Christ we are always led by God as prisoners in Christ's victory possession. God uses us to make the knowledge about Christ spread everywhere like a sweet fragrance. For we are like a sweet smelling incense offered by Christ to God, which spreads among those who are being saved and those who are being lost. For those who are being saved, it is a fragrance that brings life. - 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 GNB.
In the days in Noah, after the flood, Noah offered a sacrifice to God and God was happy, not because of the sacrifice, but because of the sweet savour that God smelt from heaven(Genesis 8:21), then God blessed him and made a covenant with Him. In the old testament, before Jesus came to this world, each time the Israelites sin, God became angry, not because of the sins they committed but because of the bad odor of that sin. That is the main reason why they would have to offer sacrifices to God by killing an innocent animal(animal without sin). But ever since Christ died and resurrected, we do not need to offers any Sacrifice to God again because each time we sin and we ask for forgiveness sincerely, Jesus Christ will wash us(our Spirit) with his blood, so that God will smell a sweet savour and forgive us(the blood of Jesus is pure and contains no sin, this is why Jesus is called the lamb of God).
How do Spiritual Odor Affect us?
Many days ago while I was listening to a sermon by a great Indian prophet and while he was preaching, he said that he saw Jesus among the congregation holding his nose and telling him that "these people are full of stinking flesh".Sin has hindered many people from accessing God, many churches today had never experienced the move of God because most of the congregation are filthy and they have come together to present their rotten and stinking flesh to the Holy one.
I used to wonder why many Christians die prematurely especially when going out, even if they did morning devotion before going out. Now i've got the answer, one day as I was interceding for some people(meanwhile those people have been praying also but they didn't receive an answer) then I asked the Holy Spirit why he told me to intercede for them. Then the Holy Spirit said "those people have chased away the angels that will bring answer to their prayers by the odor they produce".
When a Christian family do their morning devotion and one of their prayer points was 'Lord, protect us". It is very true that God will answer their prayers and send an angel to protect them but in one way or the other, they sinned. That sin will produce an odor that the angel doesn't like, and the angel will try as much not to get too close to you. How will you feel if you are thrown inside a sewage or locked in a toilet full of feces, that is the same way the angels will feel when they get too close to you. Even though, God can raise up intercessors for you. But the truth is, the more we sin, the more we chase away the angels around us.
I once heard the story of a pastor that saw three angels following him where ever he goes, then he went to church and found some pastors gossiping about a pastor, he was tempted to join them. After a few minutes, he looked back and found out that the angels were already far from Him and they couldn't get too close to him, the weirdest thing he discovered was that the angels were covering their noses. Please avoid sin brothers and sisters. If you want to please God, you must offer a sweet fragrance to Him.
When you produce a sweet smell, angels will also love to be around you and no demon can ever torment you. Sometimes you might think that "giving" will drain your pocket and won't add any value to your life. That's wrong! The act of giving have its own incense before God and it also attracts angels.
May God give us the grace to live a Holy and a pure life in the name of Jesus. Amen.
